| Bio: | I have been accused of being a pedantic sophist who peddles anti-intellectualism and post-structuralism, and am, apparently, one of many "devils" who engages in the latter. I have also been diagnosed by an entity whom I call "teh intrawebz" but is more colloquially known as "Dr. LJ" with a disorder called Asperger's Syndrome, which as in acute form of autism. Ted Kazcinski ftw anyone? In other words, I have been accused of undermining the (religious) beliefs of the state and corrupting the youth who follow me. I have been accused of teaching things up in the clouds and under the earth, and making the worse appear the better cause. For those of you smart enough to get the reference, good for you. If you don't, well then I guess I have one more charge to add to the list, no? Elitism. General: Decadent and disillusioned. I was born in 1986 in Arcata, California. Attending public schools until my sophomore year of highschool when I transferred away from the highschool I was at (which was run by a bunch of Republican douchebags, and that's putting it lightly) into a charter school that focused largely on autodidactic study. I graduated in 2005 with an average GPA of 3.4 (which includes my Freshman year where I get a 1.6 and a 1.5 respectively). I am now attending school in my hometownReligious beliefs: I was raised in a Unitarian Universalist family, though have never felt strongly for it. Due to my parents lax child-rearing I was capable of coming to my own views rather than being steered towards them. I am an agnostic to the point that I am agnostic about hard agnosticism. That is, I reject the notion that one cannot know the nature of God on the basis that such a claim presupposes a certain facts about God that we do not know in the first place. (Though it is the capitalization typically indicating the god of the Yahweh tradition, this term is used generally to refer to all conceptions of god.) Political beliefs: I have been registered with the Libertarian party since I turned 18, though I was a libertarian in ideology long before that. I am luckily not an anarcho-capitalist and am instead of the minarchist persuasion in that I believe there is a proper role for a minimal state fulfilling a nightwatch role and providing very basic policing duties, as well as a couple of other basic roles. This comes from a belief that maximizing freedom is the primary goal of the state and that anything more than the very basic things will reduce the freedom of the people. School: At the moment I am going into my third year of college working towards degrees in both the fields of Political Science and Philosophy, as well as considering a minor in economics. After that I am not sure what is going to happen. I have some options though and am considering either law school or graduate school depending on my preferred career choice after I complete my undergraduate studies. They are both a lot of work and law school would definitely provide a good basis for getting a job after school, and is an interesting subject, but I get the feeling I would love graduate school (even despite the negative things I have heard about it). Work: I am currently looking for a job Fun: Music really is my first love, though I have unfortunately fallen somewhat out of practice. I would really like to play the bass guitar in a band, but this area (though disproportionately heavy in the music scene) isn't terribly conducive to that (mostly due to a lack of drummers). I have, however, found myself playing with the drummer from my old school's rock band (yes, that's exactly how cool we were), and we have developed a style which one could almost call 'pirate metal' though we by no means assume ourselves to be of one style or another and simply play until we get something we like.I also enjoy working out quite a bit and tend to do it six to seven days a week, depending on how I am feeling, and will take a break every so often if I don't particularly feel up to it that day. I tend to go in two week cycles of what I am doing in order to 'shock' the muscles so that they don't grow too accustomed whatever it is I am doing and I change this up by either switching which muscle groups I pair, or what exercises I do specifically. Future goals: My real goal in life is to get a little plot of land where I can build my own home. Preferably this land would be mostly isolated and out in the woods somewhere, but with easy access to supplies. It would also be energy independent, relying solely on solar power for all of my electric needs. Although there would be easy access to supplies, subsistence farming would be my primary method of attaining food and the like.</p> Things others have to say: skepticultist: [ harlequen: I almost wonder if you [ awesdaws_76: [ skepticultist: [ skepticultist: [ thexphial: [ Some random other quotes: What is good?--Whatever augments the feeling of power, the will to power, power itself, in man. What is evil?--Whatever springs from weakness. What is happiness?--The feeling that power increases--that resistance is overcome. Not contentment, but more power; not peace at any price, but war; not virtue, but efficiency (virtue in the Renaissance sense, virtu, virtue free of moral acid). If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood. - H.L. Mencken Giving every man a vote has no more made men wise and free than Christianity has made them good. - H.L. Mencken The right of nature... is the liberty each man hath to use his own power, as he will himself, for the preservation of his own nature; that is to say, of his own life. - Thomas Hobbes The highest manifestation of life consists in this: that a being governs its own actions. A thing which is always subject to the direction of another is somewhat of a dead thing. - Saint Thomas Aquinas Listen to the cry of a woman in labor at the hour of giving birth - look at the dying man's struggle at his last extremity, and then tell me whether something that begins and ends thus could be intended for enjoyment. - Soren Kierkegaard To prejudge other men's notions before we have looked into them is not to show their darkness but to put out our own eyes. - John Locke Force does not constitute right... obedience is due only to legitimate powers. - Jean Jacques Rousseau If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand. - Milton Friedman Only government can take perfectly good paper, cover it with perfectly good ink and make the combination worthless. - Milton Friedman When there is an income tax, the just man will pay more and the unjust less on the same amount of income. - Plato You cannot conceive the many without the one. - Plato That all men are equal is a proposition which, at ordinary times, no sane individual has ever given his assent. - Aldous Huxley The only stable state is the one in which all men are equal before the law. - Aristotle The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it always to be kept alive. - Thomas Jefferson Edgar Friendly: See... According to Cocteau's plan, I'm the enemy because I like to think. I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy who likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fried". I want high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon, butter and buckets of cheese, ok? I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I wanna run through the streets naked with green jell-o all over my body reading Playboy magazine, why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, ok pal? I've seen the future, know what it is? It's a 47-year old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer wiener" V: Good evening, London. Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine- the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, thereby those important events of the past usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, a celebration of a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence. Last night I destroyed the Old Bailey, to remind this country of what it has forgotten. More than four hundred years ago a great citizen wished to embed the fifth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you then I would suggest you allow the fifth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament, and together we shall give them a fifth of November that shall never, ever be forgot. | |
